LED ground lights for outdoor areas
Energy-efficient and long-lasting lighting solutions
from Kent Leuchten

Create lasting impressions. High-quality LED recessed floor lights are more than just light sources – they are architectural design elements that accentuate façades, illuminate paths and add depth to gardens. At Kent Leuchten, you will find a curated selection of outdoor ground spotlights that impress with their durability, state-of-the-art LED technology and the highest quality materials. Whether for private terraces or commercial properties, we offer you the right solution for walkable and driveable ground lighting.

Where do recessed LED floor lights look best?

Recessed floor lights are truly versatile in outdoor design. Depending on their location, they fulfil different tasks – from safety to atmospheric staging:

1. Facade and object lighting (wall washing)

Position the spotlights at a short distance from the wall of the building. A wide beam angle creates a soft grazing light that highlights the textures of clinker or natural stone and gives the building an impressive appearance at night.

Tip: Ideal for the representative lighting of company headquarters or entrances and exits.

2. Accent lighting in gardens and green spaces

Place spotlights under trees, bushes or statues to create focal points of light. We recommend spotlights with a narrow beam angle to direct the light onto the object without illuminating the surrounding area.

3. Orientation along garden paths and driveways

Ground recessed spotlights provide safety and structure along footpaths. In driveways, they serve as visual guidance systems.

Important: In driveways, it is essential to use models that are suitable for vehicles and have a high pressure load capacity to prevent damage when manoeuvring.

4. Terraces and wooden decks

Embedded in decking, small, discreet LED dots create a cosy lounge atmosphere. As people often walk barefoot here, lights with low heat emission (cool touch) and flush edges are particularly important.

What to look for when buying recessed floor lights

The installation of lights in the ground places the highest demands on technology. The following factors are crucial to ensure that you can enjoy your lighting for many years to come:

1. Protection class IP67 and IP68: Completely waterproof

Outdoor luminaires are exposed to moisture and waterlogging. Our products have a minimum protection rating of IP67 (protected against temporary submersion). For areas where standing water is likely to occur, we recommend solutions with IP68 protection.

2. Mechanical load capacity & IK impact resistance rating

  • Walkable: Ideal for terraces and garden paths. These lights are designed to withstand foot traffic.

  • Driveable (IK10): In driveways or parking areas, spotlights must be able to withstand high pressure loads. Our driveable LED ground spotlights are certified for loads of up to 2,000 kg (or more, depending on the model).

The relevant classes for recessed floor lights:

IK06 / IK07: Protection against light impacts (e.g. falling branches). Sufficient for protected flower beds where no one walks.

IK08: Withstands an impact of 5 joules (equivalent to a 1.7 kg hammer from a distance of 30 cm). Standard for walk-on terrace lights.

IK10: The "vandalism class". Withstands 20 joules. This is the quality feature for high-quality architectural lighting and public areas.

Pressure load (kg/t): In addition to the IK value, the static pressure load is important for ground lights. High-quality lights for driveways should be able to bear at least 2,000 kg (2 tonnes) in order to absorb the weight of an SUV when driving over and steering.

3. Material quality: V4A stainless steel & die-cast aluminium

We rely on corrosion-resistant materials. Especially near the coast or in contact with road salt, V4A stainless steel (chloride-resistant) is the first choice to prevent unsightly rust formation.

Frequently asked questions about LED recessed floor lights:

1. What does the IK protection class mean for recessed floor lights?

The IK code indicates the impact resistance of the housing. For outdoor use, we recommend at least IK08. For areas subject to vehicle traffic or public spaces, IK10 is the safest standard to prevent breakage due to mechanical impact.

2. Are all recessed floor lights suitable for vehicles to drive over?

No. A strict distinction is made between "walkable" (for people and bicycles) and "driveable" (for cars). When purchasing, pay attention to the maximum pressure load, which should be at least 2,000 kg for driveways.

3. Why is drainage under the ground light so important?

Even IP67 lights are not designed to stand permanently in water. A drainage layer of gravel or crushed stone (approx. 30–50 cm deep) ensures that rainwater seeps away quickly and no destructive water pressure builds up on the housing.

4. Which material is best suited for outdoor use?

Stainless steel (V2A or V4A) and die-cast aluminium are ideal. V4A stainless steel is particularly recommended if the luminaires are installed near the coast (salty air) or near swimming pools (chlorine), as it is extremely corrosion-resistant.

5. Can condensation form inside the luminaire?

Yes, temperature differences (the luminaire becomes warm, the ground is cold) can cause moisture to condense inside. High-quality luminaires often compensate for this with a pressure equalisation element (membrane). Look for models with this type of ventilation.

6. What installation depth should I allow for?

This varies depending on the model. Flat LED modules often only require 5–10 cm, while powerful spotlights with swivelling reflectors require up to 25 cm depth plus drainage space.

7. Do I need a transformer for LED recessed floor lights?

That depends on the voltage. We offer 230V models for direct connection and 12V/24V low-voltage systems. Low-voltage systems are particularly safe for installation in the garden and require a suitable power supply unit (driver).

8. How do I prevent the lights from getting too hot during operation?

Modern LED technology generates significantly less heat than halogen lamps. Nevertheless, good heat dissipation via the housing is important. Our LED ground spotlights remain lukewarm to the touch, so there is no risk of burns for children or pets.
