BCXSY X Lobmeyr: A journey through light and time
The collaboration: storytelling meets Viennese craftsmanship
The collaboration between Amsterdam-based design studio BCXSY (Boaz Cohen and Sayaka Yamamoto) and J. & L. Lobmeyr is a union of two worlds: BCXSY's narrative, almost philosophical approach meets over 200 years of Viennese glass and metalworking mastery.
Together, they have created objects that fuse technical innovation with the splendour of historical design icons.
Ground Control – The cosmos on your table
Inspiration: From the Metropolitan Opera to freedom
The Ground Control series is a direct homage to the legendary "Sputnik" chandeliers designed by Hans Harald Rath for the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1966. BCXSY has translated the motif of exploding stars and distant galaxies into an intimate, tangible form.
Wireless freedom: As the first battery-powered lamp in the Lobmeyr range, Ground Control breaks the shackles of the cable. Thanks to state-of-the-art LED technology (2,400 K) and inductive charging, it is a nomadic luxury object for the modern lifestyle.
Crystalline precision: The solid, hand-cut crystal cylinders act as light guides. The various cut patterns – inspired by astronomical phenomena – gently refract the light and create an atmospheric sparkle without glare.
Materiality: finely brushed brass housings meet heavy lead crystal. The tactile experience of dimming (3 levels) underlines the value of the craftsmanship.

Archive Light – The essence of form
Inspiration: A discovery in the archives
For the Archive Light series, BCXSY delved deep into Lobmeyr's extensive design archives. The aim was not to copy the past, but to translate the DNA of the Wiener Werkstätte into a contemporary, minimalist language.
Structural elegance: the lamp captivates with its architectural clarity. A graceful brass frame carries the focus: the handmade shade, which celebrates the traditional craftsmanship of glass cutting.
The dialogue between light and shadow: the deliberate reduction of form draws attention to the refraction of light. Archive Light acts as a calm anchor point in the room – a designer lamp that combines classic proportions with modern practicality.
Craftsmanship heritage: Every detail, from the soldered joints of the brass to the polish of the glass, bears witness to the unbroken tradition of Viennese manufacturing.

Design philosophy & technical excellence
This collaboration fills a niche in the high-end lighting sector: it caters to the demand for exclusive designer table lamps that are both functional and can stand alone as sculptures.
Handcrafted in Vienna: each lamp is produced in the Lobmeyr workshops to the highest quality standards.
Durability: Thanks to the use of the highest quality materials such as brass and crystal, as well as replaceable LED components, these lamps are investments for generations.
Versatility: While Archive Light serves as a stationary statement piece, Ground Control offers maximum flexibility in interior design with up to 30 hours of battery life.
