The OOO Iridescent pendant light from the Out Of Order series is a fascinating example of robotic craftsmanship. The ultra-light cylinder design consists of industrial yarn that is skilfully wound around a mould by a robotic arm and then fixed with resin. The result: a three-dimensional network of lines that appears to float in space.
What at first glance appears to be a regularly structured pattern reveals subtle irregularities on closer inspection. These are created by deliberate disturbances in the robot's programme, which vary the flow of threads - a design intervention that gives each luminaire its own individual signature. The Iridescent version also impresses with an iridescent shimmer that plays in different colours depending on the incidence of light and creates a unique visual effect.
The OOO - Out Of Order collection is the result of a collaboration between the Amsterdam design studio BCXSY and the Rotterdam studio Robotiq. It combines high-tech with craftsmanship and creates poetic light objects from digital precision.
